The Boys in The Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. by Daniel James Brown. A NYT Bestseller. I got it on Kindle. Powerful read.

I agree! I read it in two sittings. Soon to be a major motion picture directed by Kenneth Branaugh. (seriously)

And it ends with one of the greatest last lines in American literature.

Living in that part of the country, having owned a Pocock single, having rowed in "the cut", and having a daughter who rowed for UW, the book was even more gripping. I sat there alone reading the final race narrative; yelling, laughing, crying - someone seeing me would have thought I was crazy. I don't recall reading a book that told a story so well, or that I got so emotionally involved with. MUST READ (again and again)!

Oh yes! Add my recommendation as well. If you haven't read already, it put it on your Christmas Wish List.
And Greg Smith, that's great news about a movie. As I neared the end of the book that thought kept invading my mind, "Please let there be a well-made movie of this!" I'll eagerly look forward to it.
