Calling power-10s?

Post by kdahlhaus » December 11th, 2006, 8:52 am

How do you like the coxswain to call a power 10? That is what timing of the stroke # to the catch do you prefer?

For me, it is best when the call comes out and just as I hear and process it, it is time to take the catch. That seems to add more energy to the whole thing.

Yes, I believe the preferred, or most common method is to count at the catch, for me at least, preferably right at the catch and with a nice strong, crisp count. I couldn't tell if you were describing the call as a split second earlier.

I have had some coxwains call it at the release, but I think it's somewhat counterintuitive to a power call since it's right before the recovery. Might be more appropriate if it's a focus 10 on the recovery.

The worst though is to have a cox who can't call on beat, just completely annoying! Or having them drag out the number when they're calling it. "ooonnnneee"
