Introduction

Post by AtlanticGeordie » October 13th, 2014, 6:12 am

Hi all,

Just signed up to the Forum.

Just thought I'd introduce myself and say hello. I'm from the North East of England. I've trained on the Concept 2 rower for many years but recently stepped up my usage massively in preparation for an upcoming challenge. A friend and I are competing in the 2015 Talisker Whisky Challenge. For those who don't know that is a cross Atlantic Rowing race. We are entered in the pairs class. 3000 miles in shifts of 2 hours rowing, 2 hours sleeping, 24 hours a day.

We are both rowing novices and have a lot to learn. I'm hoping to pick up tips on rowing from here and also hopefully get involved in a few challenges. I may well be running a few fundraisers of my own in the run up to the race and maybe I will get a few ideas for those.

I'm not a traditional rowers build as I'm only 5'11" tall but what I lack in height I tend to make up for in stubbornness. I've completed Ironman Triathlons and many Marathons and other endurance events. I'm not a sprinter. More a diesel engine :-)

Looking forward to reading some good stuff in here.

Sean

On checking it out, I realized that you are talking about real rowing here, not a simulated race on an erg. I think that it is worth posting another message about it to the On the Water forum. There have been a few blue water race postings there recently, but they were about short, coastal events not full bore trans oceanic racing.

Since you are in the UK, you might be interested in posting to the C2 UK forum as well: http://indoorsportservices.co.uk/forum/
