This has nothing to do with rowing!

Just curious!

I believe only 5% of all Computers run Linux or Macos,

But it seems there are a lot of you C2-users are also Mac-users!

So, What do you use for operating system?, at home, that is!

Macs at work, Macs at home.

Another interesting erger predilection, from what I've seen: European motorcycles. Sweet.

I've always used windows on the pc, plus used a macintosh 7 years one computer.

I'd use Linux but think it's expensive and don't know much about it, whether it's compatible with all the programs and easy to use etc.

I don't operate according to any system. I rely on serendipity and guesswork.

Apparently Linux is free.

Also it can be run on the same computer as windows, choosing one or the other at sign in. My computer is only running at 21 percent of capacity, so doing this might be possible. If anyone has any comments about the use of Linux let me know.

Linux can be downloaded for free.

There are a number of different Linux programs.
Here are some of the popular ones.

# Fedora Core 5 i386 and x86-64 Install DVDs
# SUSE 10.1 i386 and x86-64 Install DVDs
# Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS i386 and AMD64 Live/Install DVDs
# CentOS 4.4 i386 and x86-64 Install DVDs
# Debian 3.1 i386 and AMD64 Install DVDs

I found these for $21.48 on 12 dvd's.

I might go for this but first need to find out more about linux and getting it working.

Hey, what about the mainframe.

The best operating system by a country mile is MVS (aka OS/VS I, aka OS/VS 2, aka MFT, aka OS/390 aka z/OS). Second best is VM.

Never trust a computer you can lift, easily. Minimum weight for a REAL computer is 25Kg. Everything lighter than that is a Fisher-Price toy.

You can run Linux on a zSeries mainframe. Not quite free - the hardware costs a bit. (The operating system is free - it's the support that you pay for.)

I run SuSE 9.3 on my toy server (old IBM PC), it cost nothing more than the price for burning 5 cd-roms after I downloaded it from this here interwebby thing.

I'm surprised that the poll is about 50:50 because I thought it was more like 95:5.

But reading the fora I noticed that there are lots of Q: about the mac, and mac-pm problems!

Since the new Macs have Intel processors, they probably no longer feel any pressure to come up with compatibility with the old Motorola Macs, which is sad for those of us using them. At this point I am still trying to decide whether to just pick up a cheap PC laptop to use with the erg or to wait until I get the word that the Mac laptops with Intel processors have the new system bugs well taken care of. It wouldn't be practical to use my "table lamp" i-Mac with the erg anyway, so I need to get a new laptop of some sort.

I tired to download Linux Debian last night and to no avail.

MS Windows hasn't been able to download and transfer the iso file to cd.

I wonder if the c2 programs work with linux.
