Hello All!

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 1996 Olympics I set up a page on which you can watch my Olympic Gold Medal row. http://homepage.mac.com/xenoralfmuller/ ... ater1.html

All the best and I hope everyone is having a good summer.

How inspiring! Wish I could get the video for the link, but the audio was awesome. Great race Xeno. Thanks for your constant positive comments and input on this forum. I wish everyone could follow your lead. :D

What an absolutely beautiful race you rowed in a final full of legends. I can only imagine that you still get chills when you watch it.

The crucial difference being that there are readers who are actually interested in what Xeno did 10 years ago, last week, and next month. Probably the only reader interested in you is that John Rupp guy who frequently agrees with you

I also had a problem getting the video but could hear the audio.
Apparently, my level of Quicktime was downlevel for this play.
I backed up to http://homepage.mac.com and saw a link to download a newer free Quicktime (bundled with iTunes) and was able to view the video just fine.
Recommendation: close your attempts to view the video before doing the install - it will go a little quicker.

Thank you for enjoying the race.
Sitting next to Thomas Lange in an Olympic final was a feeling that I had to actively ignore. He was afterall my rowing GOD. He was VERY nice on the dock and gave me a big hug. I told him that it was an honor to race him and that I will always keep him as role model.

Xeno stroke rate 36+ through most of the race, 39+ the last part.

I didn't check any others but they appeared to be quite a bit slower.

any better resolution of this race?

Perhaps I have seen John Wayne in "The Quiet Man" one too many times, but as soon as you began your sentence with "I told him that it was an honor...", I heard Victor McLaglen's voice saying "it's been an honor beating you."
(I know that's not what you said.)

Thanks for posting that Xeno. That was the first actual rowing race I have really watched (if rowing in the Olympics is on at all in the US, it must be in the middle of the night or something). I loved how you were not even mentioned as a contender at the start, but described as somebody who has "good days and bad days". This was a good day.

Just curious, do you pronounce your name "zay-no" like they say on the video, or "zee-no" like I would have guessed (like the warrier princess)?

Hello
In GB and my rowing coaches from AUS and NZ, they called me Zeyno. Here in the US, Zeeno. As for the higher res, I might have to work on a "podcast" resolution. I have not figured out how to do this yet.
All the best,
XENO

I never liked rating low in still conditions, my best races were rowed at 34+. In head winds my race pace would be 34. Usually I would rate two to three beats higher then the rest of the field. I never liked getting tired by torquing the strokes using lower rates. Back then I visualised my strokes per minute to the rpms of a little Honda V-tech turbo loaded engine.

Since I am sure you must be doing this in iMovie on a mac, by "podcast resolution" I am guessing you mean video like what Apple does for the iTunes store:

select share the movie
export to Quicktime
Expert settings

you have to hit ok here, to get to the file name dialog, and before hitting ok there to actually save the file, select:

Movie to mpeg4, then these options for that:
select video format h.264
screen resolution 320x240 QVGA
set video options under the video button here to multi-pass
Make sure the audio setting is for AAC; 44 bit (this should be automatic)
then export it by giving it a filename and saving.

I am pretty sure that is how Apple sets up video for the ipod. H.264 will give the best possible video quality, but will require people to have an updated version of quicktime to play. H.264 may take a long time to export on your computer, depending on your computer speed, much longer than the version you posted.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense.

Thanks

Let me add my own WOW! What a race you rowed.

What were the splits? As I listened, the first 500 the leader hit 1:37.85 and I heard your last 500 called as 1:36.56. I also saw your total time at 6:44.85 which is an average of 1:41.21. That's some serious negative splitting.

Thanks for posting this.
