Looks like the Model D w/ PM3 will still be $850.

The Model D w/ PM4 will be $1000.

The PM4 purchased separately is $310 (ouch!).

You _may_ be able to get a trade-in of $55 of your current PM3 when purchasing a PM4.

So, for those w/ a PM3, the PM4 might cost $255.

However the difference in price of the Model D w/ PM3 vs. w/ PM4 is $150.

I guess that those who want to trade in their PM3 and buy a PM4 have effectively rented it for $105. Maybe that's fair, given the potential range of the condition (more or less scuffed-up, etc) of PM3s that might be traded in... but it hardly seems fair for those w/ a pristinely-kept PM3.

How is it not fair. I am surprised there is a trade-in at all, what can they do with a used PM3, they can't sell it as new.

Here's one: you already have a Suunto T6 watch/monitor and it would be nice to be able to have it display on the monitor.

The Sunnto T6 is currently sold by the UK C2 site but is not compatible with the PM3. I'd been wondering about that. Mystery solved. According to the list of info on the PM4, it will support the Suunto T6: "Built in Compatibility with Suunto heart rate technology (chest belt provided) which offers improved transmission and eliminates interference from nearby rowers."

Eddie Fletcher said on the UK forum, that he is drafting a training guide for rowing with the T6 which will be posteded on the UK site.

The T6 has some really nice training software which comes with the watch & monitor. If you already have the T6, you'll end up with an extra chestband, but should be nice.

Of course they can't sell it as new, but I'll bet they can use it for parts when repairing broken PM3s... Or upgrade a used model C with it and sell it on ebay... Or send it to someone who needs to get a verified piece... If there was really no use for it, they wouldn't accept it as a trade in at all.

It's a common practice with computer stuff to repair/refurbish returned items for use as replacement/upgrade parts, whether provided under warranty coverage or purchased by the end user. I know that C2 will sell you a refurbished PM3 at a pretty reasonable price if your little kid breaks one of the connectors, for example Just because it can't be sold as new, unused equipment doesn't mean it can't be put to profitable use.

I can think of one very good reason if you like working out with others side by side in the same room.

If you have two ergs with PM4s in the same room you can race each other and see the other person live as a pace boat on your PM4 monitor.

If you don't like working out with others then that wouldn't matter. However for rowing clubs and schools that train in groups together in the same room, IT"S A BIG DEAL. It means you don't need Rowpro or the internet to race your mates live in the same room. It would also be of great value to professional coaching/training groups like those that Xeno runs in California and ERGFIT run in Australia. It also leaves the door open for extra future electronic function capability on the PM4.

If that is of no value to you then most of the other changes are merely cosmetic and would not be missed.

You guys should think yourselves very lucky! Using the conversion of 1£ = $1.88 we, in the UK, have to pay about $1765!! This for a model D with PM3.

Maybe C2 will retrofit used/unsold PM3s for Model Bs so us "woosh"ers can creep into the tech age and embarass ourselves on RowPro.

I'll try and use a PM4 before I even try and convince my parents to buy me one. At ~250 for a new one, it would take a whole lot of convincing.
