Canadian Indoor Rowing Team?

Post by alkem » May 29th, 2006, 9:32 pm

Hello,
Just wondering if there is a Canadian Indoor Rowing Team? I see from the site, that there is a US Indoor Rowing Team.
Thank you.

Good question! I wish I knew the history of the US team, how it got started and information about their set up. It would be interesting! I think it would be great if there was a Canadian Indoor Team, and / or teams from other countries.

We do have the Eh Team here in the team rankings and in the Round The World Thread (with members from around the world.) We might not be an official Canadian racing team, but we do have a lot of fun. Where else can you row and finish with a virtual beer :D. John

Thanks for your replies. By the way - How do you get your rowing times at the bottom of your posts?

So how do I join up with this Eh!Team crew? Is there some sort of induction ceremony? Secret handshake? # of Molson Canadian beers quaffed in one sitting just before a HM row? Row while holding on to a hockey stick and a beer at the same time? Anything else?

Wouldn't mind getting involved in the C2CTC challenge either if you guys have the space.

Cheers,
Troy Tinnes

Troy, you would be very welcome as part of the Eh Team!!! (as would anyone else! I don't think we've come up with an induction ceremony, good idea :P . I did mention once for a ctc challenge idea of rowing a 5k or longer with having to finish a beer each k or maybe a slice of back bacon?

We definitely have room on the ctc for you. The more "boats" that we float, the more points that we get. So, fast people like yourself help, but no matter the speed, we still get points for participation.

To join the Eh Team you need to go to your profile (on the main page where you log metres), click on edit profile - right near the top, scroll down to near the bottom and you'll see (University Club affiliation), scroll down the list until you get to The Eh Team, submit it and you're in!

Then join us in The Round The World thread in the general section of the forum for some great team support. Maybe we should vote on which of your induction ideas to go with :D . John.

Ok I'm signed up! Let me know when you guys get another C2CTC team going. I'll be up for the June Challenge.

Hi Troy,
Just a bit more info on the CTC, people have to row the distance of the challenge during that month (i.e. 5k for May and 1k for June) but can row it anytime and as many times as they want (your fastest time is what counts.) As people on the team put in their times at the CTC site, they automatically go into a boat. Once 5 people do it then a second boat starts up with the next rower. The people with the fastest times are in the first boat so it gets a bit of inter-team competition going. When you first sign up you need to put in the password. It's (c2ctc), you can change it later if you want to.

There is also the nonathlon which is really fun too. It's at www.nonathlon.com

Fire off any questions that you have! John.

Click on this link http://www.c2ctc.com/make_image.php and follow the instructions. Just paste the link you're given into your sig in your profile.

Well, my times aren't that impressive, but I want to join the Eh Team too! I just started erging and I want to train to enter the Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships next year. What better way to train than with a team?!

Michelle and Troy, a big welcome to the Eh Team!!! Michelle, I bet you'll surprise yourself with your future times. Just be careful that you ease into it. Myself and many others have injured ourselves because we got a little too enthused and over did it. Posture is really important with keeping the back safe. I recently had the privilege of watching one on Xeno's training video's. It really helps if you get a chance to watch someone who knows what they're doing and get some good habits early on. Happy rowing! John.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll try not to overdo it, but I've been rowing between 1,500 - 3,500 in a workout, so as today is the last day of May, I'm going to try to row 5,000 for the CTC. I will try not to push myself to injury!

Great Michelle and good luck! It sounds like you're starting out in a smart mannor. Building up slowly is the key. There are quite a few training plans that are available that may be helpful too. If you think you might be interested in one, let us know and we'd be glad to let you know some options. John.
