What's Your Vice

Post by dutchcan » May 2nd, 2006, 2:16 am

A recent discussion about heartrate and the suggestion that cutting caffeine can make a difference in your RHR, got me to thinking.

Coffee is something I have NO intention on giving up, no matter how positively it can affect my heartrate. I never really considered it a vice, but having just gobbled down my first cup of the day, the 'buzz' I'm feeling forces me to accept otherwise.

So what's your vice? What's the one thing you need/want every day to help you through your day?

Dutchcan,

I'm with you on the coffee. First cup at 8:00 A.M. Last cup of the day at about 9:00 at night and about 3 additional cups in between. I won't give it up.

An intense dislike of coffee and anything having to do with it - especially the many stupid names for it (e.g. joe).

I've never drunk any coffee and don't like the smell of it.

I stopped drinking coffee two years ago when I was suffering from some arrhythmia, and it solved my problem. I was drinking only one cup a day at breakfast, but I guess that was one cup too much.
I had severe headaches for the first three days, and felt sleepy in the afternoons. I would have never thought about it as a drug, but in the end, that's what it was.
Don't get me wrong, I really loved coffee. I would go to great length to get the freshest beans from specialized shops, that I would grind myself just before making coffee. It was quite a ritual!

As for vice, I do enjoy a little piece of dark chocolate (80 to 85% cocoa) with a cup of herb tea after lunch and dinner.

Indulge in your little vice, as long as it is done in moderation, it adds some spice to life!

Cheers!

I lost a complete day of work to Google Earth the first time I used it. I just could not help myself. If I log on it takes at least an hour to drag myself away.

I couldn't agree with you more! On both counts! Dark chocolate ranks right up there with my coffee. Okay...so I may indulge in more than one vice.
