I erg every day when I'm actually erging. That said, I haven't sat in the machine more than once in the past 6 weeks.

I was usually a 5x10K/week type guy. But after reading a lot on the benefits of anaerobic training including its applicability to the start-stop nature of most sports, the anabolic effects on the body, improved body composition, and in some cases, even increased aerobic capacity, I started to be intrigued.
So I've moved to experimenting with shorter, higher intensity interval training e.g. 5 warm-up, 6-10x30sec repeats (90s moderate pace after each interval), 5 min cooldown. Over time, I plan to increase the number and intensity of the intervals as well as play around with the duration 15sec-60sec range. Every third erg session, I do a more typical steady-state 7.5-10K session at a moderate pace.
Keep in mind, I am not an OTW rower or a competitive erger but more interested in just using erg as part of an overall athletic training program.

I found that pulling hard every 5 minutes helps move things along. At first I could only do 10 pulls (power 10) but now do 10, 15, 20, 25, 20, 15, 10 in a pyramid during a row.
It helps the time go by and I have to think about how many power strokes to do next... And my split has really decreased!
