Shorts

My wife used to cycle quite a bit and had some nice thickly padded shorts. Has anyone purchased the C2 rowing shorts? Are they padded? Any other sites out there that sell good rowing shorts? I am having the butt pain issue (more like a bruise actually) but slowly getting it under control with a towel and a double layer of bubble wrap. I thought some padded shorts might help as well.
Thanks

The C2 shorts have a double layer on the bottom made of thin fleece, but I would not call it padding. I like them. I liked the old version better though. So next time I think I will order nonc2 branded rowing shorts, like what is linked above.

If you are thinking of buying a pad, I think the cheap C2 pad available in the US is junk. Some people have reported favorable results with the skwoosh pad (I haven't tried that, but have thought of it for my next marathon).

I use cycling shorts with no problems.
I use a square piece of carpet offcut on the seat of the C2 and I am now up to 25K and looking forward to a FM using it.

I think the C2 shorts are the most comfortable, but for me they wear out too quickly for the cost. If they were more durable I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. As for padding, there are two layers, but the padding is negligible. I don't have an issue myself with butt pain caused by the seat so padding wasn't important to me.

I have the c2 pad & find it satisfactory. It has cut outs for your seat bones, which is the important part.

JL Racing makes some pretty fine rowing shorts that have a double reinforced butt.

We also use "butt pads" sometimes, made out of VERY thick foam (like nearly an inch I think, it works great!).

Robinson's had $20 Jockey shorts on sale a year ago for 7 bucks each, so I got three pair of them.

They are nylon/lycra, look sort of like cycling shorts and are very comfortable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am still considering purchasing one of the gel pads.
I have the butt pain almost completely under control now. Picture this- and try not to laugh.
-C2 foam pad
-Hand towel folded over twice
-Two layers of "big bubble" bubble wrap made in to a sandwich, wrapped in 1/16" sticky sided packing foam
"Butt" it works... and I quit wearing shorts all together.
