Drag Factor

Post by tcdove » May 20th, 2014, 3:42 pm

I am getting ready to test on the erg and we were told the test will be timed distance at 80% drag factor. How is the 80% determined?
Thanks.

It's a nonsensical question.

There's no absolute drag factor because it, primarily, depends on two things:
1. your elevation above MSL (the flat lands of England are different to the Rocky Mountains)
2. how much crud and cruft is in the fan cage.

Setting the lever (scale of 1 to 10) to 8 could be any drag factor between about 80 and 240 depending on #1 and/or #2.

It would be much better if your coach learned what drag factor meant and how it is supposed to relate to a 4+ boat and how to get consistency between machines. http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/t ... etting-101

If you use the monitor to measure drag factor then set a prescribed drag factor number (150 is probably a good starting point).

0.8 x your training drag, but the persone who made thst up knows little about drag. Effortwise you still will pull a 100% effort at that drag and it will also not alter the outcome much.
A real cap would be either rate or a cap on your hr.
