Due to a tendon / navicular bone issue in my left foot my podiatrist recommends that I wear shoes with good arch support.
For her that means: 1) Stiff rear portion of the sole (flexibility at the front is OK) , 2) Lace-up, and 3) A well defined arch support area on insole. For years and years I've been rowing in Fivefinger minimalist shoes and have really liked them, but obviously they violate every single one of her criteria.
There are plenty of shoes out there that do meet those criteria, but they tend to be walking / running shoes with a fair amount of cushion, which I'm hoping to avoid.
Does anyone out there use "erging shoes" that would work for me here?
Thanks

I'm not sure about arch support, but I use Nike Metcons which have a very firm heel / sole, like all training shoes

I'm in Reebok Crossfit Nano9's which have a great solid base for erging. Working well so far but not sure they have a huge amount of arch support. I guess you could change the inners for something with more.

Folks, thanks for the ideas.
So generally, is it safe to say that "Crossfit" type training shoes are a good option for the erg?
I'm not familiar with that type of shoe, but if the consensus is that they do work well for the indoor rower I will definitely check them out in person.

+1 for the Metcon. I love how firmly it plants on the machine, and the heel locks into the footholds nicely.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑October 9th, 2020, 1:10 amI'm not sure about arch support, but I use Nike Metcons which have a very firm heel / sole, like all training shoes
