Concept2 Log: Teams vs. Affiliations

Hello! I am about a week in to my ERG ownership and I am loving the Concept2. I found my way to this awesome machine based on my rowing experience at a local hiit gym. To that end, I was discussing the Concept2 with some fellow members and someone brought up the idea of starting a team to make the Concept2 ownership a somewhat more social aspect. However, after looking at the Team pages, I am not sure that a team is a good idea since they run for seasons (i think) and are not a semi-permanent group of individuals looking to track progress with each other. It looks like an affiliation is more appropriate, despite the hurdle of having to have Concept2 set it up separately.
Am I understanding the nuance between the two correctly?
If so, how quickly does Concept2 respond to affiliation requests and is there anything I should be aware of before submitting one?
Thank you!

Teams and affiliations are identical except for the periodic challenges.
How you affiliate from your Concept2 log book is mostly a self-selection process.
There are a number of "virtual, worldwide" teams here:
viewforum.php?f=29 there's also a lot more over on the Faceborg (a thing I'm not a user of since December 2013).
If I were starting out today I'd affiliate to "Forum Flyers" as they are an inclusive team with some very enthusiatic rowers.

In my experience, the same work day that they receive the request.

Thanks Dougie!
Yes, Leomarweb - you'd be welcome to pop over to the
Forum Flyers team thread and see if you like the team. We have a lot of people who just pile on the metres and don't participate actively in the thread, but we're always welcome to new members.

Yes very welcome (and you are too anytime Dougie!) - if you have a look through the thread you will get the idea of how to get involved with our team and log meters in a productive way.

Love to have you or you AND your friends join Forum Flyers. We can use the help! However, I get the idea from your initial post that you might be interested in starting a team based on your crossfit gym?
Concept 2’s seasonal challenges offer prizes to teams based on the membership or employees of brick ‘n mortar locations such as businesses, fitness centers, rowing clubs, military postings. These team prizes are not offered to virtual teams, most of whose members never actually meet each other except at virtual internet “clubhouses” on Facebook or C2 Forum. Check the Teams subforum onsite and the description of the types of teams participating in the meterboard participation challenges at Concept2.com. Also check out c2ctc.com for a monthly indoor rowing competitive challenge. Good luck with either starting a club or joining an existing!

I found my way to rowing via a somewhat less hardcore B&M, OrangeTheory. The conversation about starting a group is from the Reddit sub for OTF. That said, I do not get the sense that there are many OTF members rowing on the C2 since they use WaterRowers. By the way, today was my first day at OTF where we had a rowing block since I got my C2 about a week ago. I was surprised at how spongy the WaterRower feels in comparison, but I digress.
I've gone ahead and affiliated with the Forum Flyers to see how this all works. If it becomes appropriate and there is enough interest, I may further look into an OTF group of some sort.
