I have just found a great AA to D cell adapter from PHILIPS
It is the MultiLife R20NM-MONO and a pair of these also come with 2 x 2450mAh Philips rechargable NiMH batteries.
The fitment is great and they are not so tight that you can easily remove the outside one by hand. I would also recommend them for simply using AA Alkaline cells in or even AA Lithium cells in if your always connected to the PC using RowPro as the batteries are there simply to backup the date and time with the PM3 switched off. The main power to run the PM3 comes from the USB cable if you have it connected. If you have a PM3 or PM4 made after mid 2008 then an adapter would definately be the way to go.
Pretty cheap as well as they are only like twice the price of a pair of D Alkalines.
The only thing to note is that the battery reading on the monitor starts at only 85% due to the lower Voltage of the NiMH, however with low self discharge versions you could still expect 6 months of use or more.
The only minor change looks like you may need to put some vercro dots or thin adhesive foam on the monitor battery case to raise the adapters slightly as the battery terminals do not make contact with the cells dead in the centre. There is still about 4 or 5mm between the adapters and the battery cover to enable you to do this and it would make battery removal even easier.
