Hi,

I have been watching my local "craig list" here in Sweden for a while and finally there is a concept2 only 65 miles from my home.
My first plan was to look for a modell D with a PM4 but since beggars can't be choosers I think I will go for this one. It's a modell E with a PM4. I don't know how old it is but the seller told me a couple of years, it have only been in private use so I'm not concerned about it would be worn out. (Can a concept ever be worn out ). The price is roughly about half the price for a new model E in sweden ~$920.
What do you think, should I "close the deal".

If you have the space an E is fine. Its a one piece ergo, a D is smaller and can be put apart, much easier to move.

And E has one real disadvantage, after a hard piece the legs are lower if you put them on the ground, this is pretty uncomfortable. A D feels much less uncomfortable, you stay more compact.

Pricewise if the machine is not hammered you can make a good deal.

An E is not a one piece... it can be split apart just like a D model.

I personally don't see any disadvantage with the E. In fact i see advantages, it's more robust machine (built like a tank) the legs are cast welded, not nuts like the D model. And it's easier to get up off after a hard workout with it being higher off the ground 20'ins.

Did not know that, but a D can be put aoart in seconds.

Ehh getting up, after a hard session you are giving yourself away again. Thats impossible.

Henry, the E comes apart no differently than the model D, they feature the exact same workings to mate monorail to flywheel housing. How quick they are dismantled to be put away is totally dependent on the user and nothing to do with anything else.

Giving myself away? Just because i said it's easier to get up off after hard sessions, doesn't mean straight away. Which is a no brainer anyway if you think about it. You have less far to travel to get back on your feet, Duh.

Yes Henry the E breaks in 2 pretty easily too. I quite like it being a bit higher of the ground. Some don't like the fixed arm I guess but it does remove a moving part and risk of connection wearing out. Half of new price in a privately owned machine is a pretty good price I reckon.

From the price difference, we should assume that C2 considers the model E the yacht and the D the knockabout. Both have to be rowed and there is no "luxe" version of that! I'd say half off new is a great deal on either.

I don't get the feet are lower uncomfortable thing I have dug deep plenty times on the erg, and even fell off in exhaustion before. I still don't get your point.

Forget about it. The E is fine. Its larger though and SOME people find the height uncomfortable. If you have enough space and are not a performance erger its fine. For racers I would advice a D.

In generel you post your training, thats my reference. How many races have you done?
How many max interval sessions have you Done?
do you not have a pb for most ranking distances.

The stuff you post/do is about fitness, seldom about performance. Simply the way I see it.

Yes thats right in the big picture, Henry. But it doesn't mean i don't dig deep on the erg! I literally fell off it recently after some tabata... if thats not digging deep then i don't know what is. To me digging deep isn't something that only happens in races or PB attempts. Example: You could be halfway through a 30min regular session and it's not happening, but rather than HD @ 15mins you dig deep and keep going

But back on topic, you won't regret purchasing a model E. I noticed it comes with a PM4, which may suggest it's older than the seller is claiming it to be. I bought my model E 2014 model second hand and it came with the PM5 as standard.

To make things worse, I have now found I model low milage model D with a PM5 from 2016. The price is ~865 $ or 677£.
I spoke to the seller today and I think I have to go on a roadtrip this weekend (410 miles back to back)
