Hello!
As a avid rower, both otw and the erg, I was wondering if anyone here has used a C2 DYNO strength trainer and could tell me your experience with it. Also, I am currently interested in buying one but since they were discontinued in '07, they are hard to find. If you live in/near Virginia and have one that you don't use anymore and would like to sell, please reply!
Being my first post, I'm happy to be apart of this forum!
Thanks,
George

Hi George --
I picked one up on Craigslist -- for free. Problem is, it was 10 hours drive from me -- each way!
I posted it on uship.com, and had it delivered for $300!
I love the machine -- I find keeping daily tabs of my exercises rewarding, trying to beat my prior times.
Also, I am an avid erg'er, and notice that the dyno definitely works different muscles -- especially my abs.
That said, I love this machine!

I may thinking about pur chasing a dyno. Are you still using yours. Any good training tips you've learned along the way?

If you get one you really need to look after it as it essentially uses a PM2+ monitor with a different LCD screen and programmed micro.
This means the monitor is EXTREMELY rare and there is no replacement for it that I'm aware of so you had better use only Lithium AA batteries in it that last for years and do not leak.
The PM2+ is pretty rare as it is but if you kill your DYNO monitor your in trouble.
I have only repaired one DYNO monitor in all the years servicing the Concept 2 rowers.

There was one available near Tacoma last weekend on CL. Only $100! Looks like it's at reseller/consignment type place:

I did purchase one... the force monitor was replaced 2 years ago with documentation. It's a awesome piece of equipment. I use it to complete my free weight workouts till failure. I find that I always sweating when I working on it versus my regular lifting. THe leg press is one of main reasons I purchased it. I've put lithium batteries in like you suggested. How tight showed all the rollers be. Its my understanding that the carriage should rock some requiring balanced force.

I just retrieved my DYNO from storage yesterday. Turns out I had not had the good sense to remove the alkaline batteries before storing it almost a decade ago, though in my defense, someone else had dismantled and packed it for me, and at the time, there was no expectation that it would not be set up again in the new digs. Fortunately, there was minimal leakage from the batteries, and after putting in a fresh set, it came to life! I felt like I should go buy a stack of lottery tickets immediately after
I disagree that the failure of the monitor means you’re [sic] in trouble, however. You can still get a beastly workout without the monitor; however, you lose the ability to precisely measure your performance over time. Still offers the ability to work your muscles to failure! A Dyno with a bum monitor will fetch a lower price, of course.
