Playing online poker / backgammon while rowing

Post by HenryMoore » July 21st, 2017, 10:06 am

I was thinking a million times if only somebody would integrate a PS4 or xbox 360 controller (WiFi) into the handle so that one could play online poker or backgammon while rowing. Has anybody seen that or heard of?

That's a new one, but I have seen some preliminary research indicating that doing endurance training and challenging cognitive activity at the same time may increase your max effort time to exhaustion (without the cognitive load) more than just endurance training on it's own. The results were impressive, in the 10's of percents, I think possibly even 50% over endurance training alone.

Having the brain do something while rowing is a great idea, thats why Rowpro probably works for me its a distraction, your looking out for peoples pace change as they try and sneak up on you while live online rowing.

Perhaps trying to play online poker is a step too far, try rowing harder !

Row properly and get a good workout and you won't need stuff to occupy your mind.

To me this is like those who go to the gym just to faff about on their phones when they can just do that at home.

I used to do this when on my turbo-trainer cycling through the winter. There was a great (but now dead) site - I think it was Poker Room which had keystrokes to control it. F1 was fold, F2 was check, and F3 was bet. Which meant as long as I didn't want to alter bet amounts, I could just rest my fingers on the keys, and not worry about having to alter how I sat.

I've no idea how to translate that to an Erg though. I use a mini wireless keyboard for typing chat comments etc before a RowPro session while sitting on the machine - I guess you could do something similar if you can find a site that uses simple keystrokes.
