Isopropyl and 3in1 oil

Post by kleefarr » September 2nd, 2016, 10:50 am

Would it be ok to clean the rail and rollers with Isopropyl and lube the chain with 3in1 oil?

3in1 oil is specifically listed as being okay for the chain. Not sure about isopropyl on the rail, though.

Yes- the standard 3 in 1 oil is a 20 weight oil which is what we recommend for the chain. Isopropyl is a good way to clean the rail, though an off-the-shelf glass cleaner or general household cleaner like 409 will also do the trick. For stubborn gunk on the rail and rollers you can us a medium to fine grit Scotch Brite pad........C2JonW

Any stuff on the rail tends to be "Water based" as long as you do not put oil on the slide. Just water and a damp cloth will remove the black stuff. If you keep it clean after every row you should not need anything aggressive on it to clean it. The seat rollers will come back white and smooth and keeping the slide clean means the rollers do not get pitted.

I clean my mono rail and rollers after every session, with just water and soft wet cloth!! then household paper roll to wipe dry and get the black off the rollers (come back white again)

I use 3 in 1 oil on the chain after about every 20 sessions or so. Just apply sparingly and wipe off excess if necessary.

I was using windex and a cloth but recently tried those wet household disinfectant wipes that you'd use for *** DELETE - SPAM ***/bathroom etc and they seem to work really well on the slide, and gets more black off the seat rollers than anything else I've tried.
