Hello all. I am considering the purchase of a Concept2 Model D.

My question is this: Will it move around while I am using it? I want it to be completely stationary and stable.

I have previously used a rowing machine at the gym and liked it a lot. I am an active canoeist so am inclined toward this type of exercise but have been on machines that were not very stationary or stable. I recently had a heart attack and am 66 and am quite committed to keeping my new low weight and getting in better shape.

There will be carpet under the spot where it will go. I can put down a plastic pad if that is helpful.

Can anyone give me guidance regarding the stability and movement of the model D?

On a very hard floor the rower will move a little at very high pressure and rate. On a carpet it shouldn't be an issue. You might want a plastic pad for the sweat though (seriously, you will)

It the machine moves you've got a crap technique. You're either throwing all your weight forward into front-stops or you're not controlled on the drive (depends which way the machine moves).

We do get them moving on very smooth wooden floors but a bit of gaffer tape (sticky side out) round the feet of the machine can fix that (until you fix your technique).

This is going to sound a little odd. But if you don't want to move, you might consider adding Slides to your C2 purchase so the machine will move instead of you. Notice how little the rower moves, relative to the room. He's (essentially) pushing the machine away from himself. This sort of set up feels very stable. And if you want to use a computer monitor or watch a screen, it's easier, as you don't change your distance to the screen.
