Training over the summer

Hello all,
My season just ended after a Midwest Scholastic Regatta that resulted in a medal around my neck.
However, as you can see from my signature, my 2K time is pretty bad: 1:49.9. This year I was in my school's 4th Varsity 8+, but next year, as a junior, I'd like to be in the 2nd Varsity 8+. To do this, I know I need to get my 2K under 7:00 or 1:45.0. I was wondering what the best training regimen would be to try to achieve this 5-split drop. If anyone with experience with this type of drop could help me, I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks.
Pete
