Smart Card Readers

Post by Cyclingman1 » February 7th, 2012, 6:43 pm

I purchased an IOGEAR, model GSR202, smart card reader. It supports i2C memory cards, like the concept logcard. It is ISO 7816, T0, T1 compatible, just like the readers that Concept 2 recommends. It will not read my logcard. I used the driver that windows automatically installed and also went to the IOGEAR site and got their driver. I put the card in the reader and a green light comes on meaning that it sees the card. But Concept 2 utility still has a red 'X' across the logcard. I suppose I'm puzzled this does not work. A protocol is a protocol. What is concept doing that is imcompatible with the standard? Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks, Jim Grattan.

PS. Also why doesn't the online logbook login work for the concept forum. After all, is it not one big happy family?

What do you mean by the logbook working with the forum? They have different functions. The logbook is for storing your data (run by C2) and the forum is for communication amongst those who have signed up as members and is a separate operation entirely. Dougie could explain that in more detail.

I do not know Doug. To me, Concept 2 is concept 2. As a user of their main product, posting times and asking questions are all just part of the process. Chances are they require yet another username and password for buying things from them. I'm not multiple persons. I say let me log in with one username and one password and let me then do what is available to someone outside of their company. I do not think that is ridiculous.

BTW, the answer to my question about Smart Card Readers is what I'm after. I'm under no illusion that Concept 2 will be changing their multiple username practices anytime soon.

They're on two different servers and neither of them are using LDAP.

The forum uses the stock phpBB3 userid/password scheme. The C2 logbook uses a RYO scheme (that's not at all secure).

I can't comment about the C2USA shop, when I try to go there (with my UK based IP addr) I get a 302 redirect to the C2 International Dealer's page. I'd guess it's going to be a third unique userid/password combination.

Perhaps we should ask C2 to support OpenID. Not that I'm too worried about privacy / security on here or the logbook.

Dougie Lawson is on of the moderators on the forum and uses the forum name of Citroen. He is very knowledgeable about various aspects of C2 and can give give good advice on them. I still don't understand what your problem is. The name you use here on the forum is anything you want to use. Obviously, Cyclingman1 is just a forum pseudonym and I doubt that you would be using that for ordering C2 items. What you use on the logbook is up to you. Logbook is a private matter between you and C2. You enter whatever data you wish about the erg pieces that you have done and that information is stored by C2 and is not available for public view. However you can add the results of certain pieces (500m, 1k, 2k, 30', etc.) to the ranking which is available to public view if you wish. The rankings show your real name.

I am sorry that I do not have an answer for your real question, i.e. the log card reader problem. In my own case, I use an Athena reader which is one that C2 said would work with my computer and current OS and had had no problems with it. I brought up Dougie's name since he has often posted advice on the use of logcards.

Later edit:
Oops, I see that Dougie got his answer in while I was still writing mine
