Inflatable kayak(canoe)

Post by shevchenko » July 25th, 2010, 5:45 am

i saw this canoe (kayak). it s compact to carry to my summerhouse.and i read good reviews about it on amazon.com.
i have a concept 2 rower model d. i use my legs a lot with it. i dont know how a real canoe(not Inflatable ) works.
i mean does a real canoe or boat have a system that u can use your legs ? or do they have a sliding seat as concept 2 rower?
can i have that effective leg workout with this canoe?

With the K and paddle in the foto u won't get any sort of wo, except when you throw them away. Do you really think you'd go anywhere against the wind with that setup?

Best is to join a canoe club. Or get a real but cheap fibreglass K1 (or k2) and most of all a real paddle from someone who knows about both. You don't need a racing K to start with, especially if the water's cold, but at least one that won't deflate when you're 10k from home at the first touch of a rock. For flat water, a kayak should have the bow and stern in the water, like an eskimo boat. Otherwise they don't go straight, and indeed will spin easily. Also, the longer the waterline, the faster the boat.

A fast carbon K1 today as well as a hefty pricetag, will have seat that rotates a bit, and this lets the legs work a little more.

Canoes and kayaks are both propelled with paddles, but beyond that, they are very different and should be discussed as separate subjects. There is also a major difference between recreational canoeing which is usually done seated and racing canoeing, some kinds of which are done with one knee down - always the same knee, so the racing canoeists have told me.
