I'm nobody. I'm just an overweight old bat struggling to learn how to do this thing. I'm bopping along, dealing with whatever I deal with, reading, learning, when suddenly I find myself gobsmacked with some of this childish ugliness.
You could just stop. Every damn one of you could. At the very least you could start a thread called "Childish Ugliness" so everybody who doesn't want to play doesn't wander in accidently.
Yeah, I've read all of your holier-than-thou crap about who is better and who is ruining what and isn't-it-awful but I'm not buying one damn bit of it. You're just a bunch of schoolyard poseurs. And not everybody wants to listen to it.
Capiche?
(And in case you haven't figured it out, this is your mother talking.)
With respect, the first line of your posts says it all. Of course you would not be interested in the whole Dwayne debate and call it childish ugliness. The reason for this is that is does not effect you, so why whould you care?
It does however affect me and other people too. Are you capable of pulling a USIRT qualifying time? Did you have a chance of rowing for your country?
How would you feel if you realised that what ever score you pulled faster than the required qualifying USIRT target, your time would be bettered by someone else with no proof of doing so, thus taking a place on the USIRT and representing their country and then not even bothering to finish one race and starting another one. Further more, as time goes on, they continue to claim faster and faster times without proof.
As I have said before, novices do not understand the whole issue here.
I stand up for what I believe, I don’t appreciate you coming on here throwing a hissy fit when it is clear you do not understand the whole issue and history of this subject.
Another thing, you say it is childish ugliness, but something tells me you will be back to respond to this post and therefore be part of want you a complaining about.

Cheerleader row4life,
Do you think I am going to get into a verbal exchange with you? It is obvious you have no rowing knowledge as you seem to have believed the virtual leagues and honour systems no matter how farcical they may have seemed.
You were searching for a role model, you picked the wrong guy, you now have egg all over your face, nothing wrong in being naïve, learn from this experience and move on.

I don't recall seeing any incontrovertible proof that it affects you, either.Chad Williams wrote:With respect, the first line of your posts says it all. Do us all (yourself included) a favor - decide which issue you are most upset about, and stay on topic. The USIRT members aren't selected by looking at the C2 rankings. Whether or not Dwayne or anyone else submits bogus times there doesn't alter your chances of making the USIRT squad, unless you spend so much time and effort whining that you don't pay enough attention to your training. It is, however, not inconceivable to me that you could acquire enough of a reputation from the endless attacks on Dwayne (however thinly veiled by claims that "oh, [s]he brought it up, I didn't") that the people who choose the USIRT members might decide it really isn't essential to have you "rowing for your country" regardless of your athletic qualifications. It does however affect me and other people too. Are you saying that you condone Dwayne cheating, entering false times, and false meters on the honors board, because you don't have a chance for a team?whp4 wrote:Whether or not Dwayne or anyone else submits bogus times there doesn't alter your chances of making the USIRT squad
That is ridiculous.
We have already seen that the USIRT policies have no merit.
And there are no specific USIRT selection criteria.
Thus what you are suggesting would not only not be surprising but has already been happening.

Ought to work a bit on your reading comprehension, John, as I said no such thing. I'll put it a different way, in the hopes that you might be able to understand. The rankings aren't used to select the team; therefore, Chad's chances of being selected for the USIRT are unchanged whether the rankings are 100% accurate, 100% fictitious, or anywhere in between.John Rupp wrote:Are you saying that you condone Dwayne cheating, entering false times, and false meters on the honors board, because you don't have a chance for a team?whp4 wrote:Whether or not Dwayne or anyone else submits bogus times there doesn't alter your chances of making the USIRT squad
There are some published specifics about the USIRT selection process. The Fall '05 Update published by Concept2 stated that members of the USIRT will be selected from the members of the USIRDS by coaches Mike Teti and Tom Terhaar. We have already seen that the USIRT policies have no merit.

Given that every single member of the USIRT appears to have medalled at the EIRC, including a couple of new world records, it's hard to see how the claim can be made that their policies have no merit, but no doubt you'll try. There is an enormous gulf between "could be improved" and "have no merit".
