Jim, fantastic job on the 10k. More than a minute off of your time is great and breaking forty minutes is a milestone, well done! Francois, three swimming Pb's in one day, that is amazing. What do you think has got you going so fast at this point?
Kirk, good plan to do the 60' first, and then a 1/2 mar. Good luck on it!
I'm looking at using this week to attempt to get back to where I was before getting sick. Hopefully next weekend I can make an attempt at a 10k.

There is no secret John: Hard training (both quantity and quality), work on technique, a week of tapering, a thorough warm-up before each race and having a positive attitude and being mentally focused when on the starting blocks! That's all!Yukon John wrote:Francois, three swimming Pb's in one day, that is amazing. What do you think has got you going so fast at this point?
Good luck for your 10k next week. This is not an event for the faint-hearted!

Fantastic effort Francois. Thanks for explaining your secret so concisely. It's great that you've found the training regimen that suits you, and of course you have the discipline to follow it.Francois wrote:There is no secret John: Hard training (both quantity and quality), work on technique, a week of tapering, a thorough warm-up before each race and having a positive attitude and being mentally focused when on the starting blocks! "What hath happened to the child Horus? O Isis, pray thou to heaven so that the sailors of Ra may cease rowing, so that the Boat of Ra may not depart from the place where the child Horus is.' Then Isis sent forth a cry to heaven, and addressed her prayer to the boat of Millions of Years .... "
Yeah, yeah, whatever. I think we might need to stop in Cairo for a quick drink with the Horus fellow.
Oh look, some friends...

Great pictures Dan! It looks like the top boat would be more fun to row. Do you think they have a beer cooler in the cabin ?
I feel like I just got off of the bottum boat (the one with the chains and the whip ) I gave a go at the 10k and I'm in the CTC boat! It went pretty well and I got a pb by about 49 seconds (37:41.4 pace 1:53.1.) I was able to keep the pace at 1:53 for the first 6k, then it slipped a bit to 1:53.3 but I had enough left to go into some major O2 debt at the end (I could have rowed in a vacuum and probably wouldn't have noticed ) and rowed the last 500 metres at a 1:47 pace. Glad it's over! Now the marathon! Anybody else thinking of doing a 1/2 or full marathon for the challenge?

Great 10K John
I'm still trying to find the time to fit an erg session into my week.
Cheers

I managed to do my first hour last Sunday. Went at my planned HM pace (2:08) for first 52min, then dropped it 1 sec /500 to the end. Bit of a sore butt, but it went well. So... I'll be givin' it a go.Yukon John wrote:I feel like I just got off of the bottum boat (the one with the chains and the whip ) I gave a go at the 10k and I'm in the CTC boat! Great job on the hour row Kirk! Do you have a plan of attack for the 1/2 marathon (pace)? Best wishes on it! JohnI managed to do my first hour last Sunday. Great rowin', hosers.
We have made it past Cairo and are on our way to Baghdad.
Nice row on the 10k john.
Great pics, dan.
I picked up a few tips from the rowing coach at Brentwood http://www.brentwood.bc.ca when I was down there yesterday. Unbeleivable. I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance to have a coach look at you take it. I was on the erg next to our Canadian 2k erg lightweight champ and he almost fell off laughing when he saw me erg.
I see Xeno is running a week long course. Has anyone ever been to one of these?
Keep on rowin', eh.
Jim

Hi Eh! Teamers!
I just wanted to let you know that I did my 10K for the CTC, so we just need one more person to row and we'll have a full boat. I am pretty happy because I got a 53.6 second PB over my previous PB which I just set last month. At that rate of improvement, I'll be beating Brian by sometime next year!

Great going, Shannon. You definitely inspired me. Unfortunately, my inspiration fizzled in the Raleigh heat. Had to put the air conditioning on to try to keep the indoor temp from going over 80. Although, it defiinitely went over 80 in the room where I was rowing. It will take a little while to get used to this again. Maybe next week, I'll try. Or better yet, someone else will do it and I'll cheer them on with some ice tea in my hand.

While you were adjusting the air conditioning, we were digging our selves out. We had our biggest snowfall of the year. We usually get a few inches of snow at a time and it builds up over the winter. We were well into having the snow melt but we got about a foot of snow in the last day. So I spent the morning hooking my drag to the truck and plowing the drive. Then the power went out and had to cut some wood to keep us warm. It's nice and cool for rowing though. It's about -1C (~30F.) I could go for a bit of the heat your experiencing for biking. I was hoping to get the road bike out, but I don't think the skinny tires would work in snow drifts! Good luck if you try the CTC! John.
