Francois- may I borrow your 5k splits for my next 2k?

Hope to join in the fun for the next challenge. Seems my erg has only just awakened from having the Summer off. Perhaps the trip through Antarctica will help get me back to form but I find it slow going so far.
:x
Chris
I know what you mean Chris. I took most of the summer off from rowing and although I cycled, I don't have the endurance or speed that I had the last time it was cold :( . I'm setting a goal for myself to get a pb on a marathon around the beginning of the x-mas challenge.) If I say it here on the forum then it's more likely I'll do it :P . It seems I like either really short or really long, all that other stuff :x . Good luck getting back into the grind! John.

Francois, I feel sorry for your poor erg, you're definately giving it a lot of stress :D . Once again, I'm very impressed!

Hi John,
I had planned to supplement my rowing with some biking but work and home got in the way. I can hear an crotchety old coach I had say,
"that's just an excuse and an excuse is just a lie and worst of all it's a lie to yourself". He was definitely old school.
Good luck with your marathon goal! I know what you mean about once you post it on the forum you have to follow through, that's why I haven't mentioned that I'm in week one of the IP to improve my pokey 2k.

Just in case you hadn't checked it, there is current thread based on the IP running on this forum. It is called something like "the road to Boston 2007."

Thanks Bob. As I mentioned I'm just getting back into rowing regularly and I haven't had a chance to check out that thread (in the training section.) But I will now!

OK, hosers, we are almost one-third of the way from Greymouth to the South Pole. Rowing across those cold southern seas is a challenge, but reward yourself with a hot rum toddy, compliments of the Eh!Team.

Here is a picture and a link to the live web cam at MacQuarrie Island. Those Aussie's must be wondering what that fast moving thing is they are picking up on their radar.

Keep on rowin', eh.

It's nice to see the welcoming committee is preparing for our arrival in Antarctica.

I must say, there's nothing like a hot bowl of oatmeal after spending an hour or so reading about life in Antarctica.

Across the Antarctic Circle, eh.

Great rowin' team. We passed over 66 degrees south latitude today and we are south of the Antarctic Circle. Due to the diligent rowing of all of our members we went flying by the Balleny Islands today.

If we can stay out the pack ice, we should reach the coast of Antarctica in the next few days.

Hopefully we do not meet the same fate as the Endurance

I'm hoping to make it to make it to lightweight for this month's CTC challenge. 166.5 lbs this morning. The trick will be not gaining it back during all the big eating holidays coming up. But this month should be fine - not much to eat in the Antarctic.

An early congratulations on making lightweight Dan! I guess down in the Antarctic there probably isn't much to eat except fish and seaweed so you'll probably be ok there. Watch out for the holidays though. We just had Canadian Thanksgiving here this past weekend and this morning I woke up as a temporary heavyweight :x . Next Monday Shannon and a rowing friend of hers (our Ellen on the CTC) are going to do a cleanse, I think I'll tag along to give it a try and offer support. But not having cheerios and coffee for breakfast (eaten separately!) is going to be rough. I imagine by the end of it, being a lightweight won't be a problem  !

Today is the completion of week 3 of the IP. I'm used to rowing (erging) more long slow distances. The plan has a mixture of paces that add variety and keep it interesting so far.
I indulged myself by upgrading to a new Model D. It's like getting a new car without the new car smell. :D
Chris
.......are we almost their?

We are over 70% of the way from Greymouth to the South Pole. This is a long slog and definitely our longest leg. Our daily average has picked up, so we should make good progress across the continent.

Ok, I'll bite. What is the IP??

Keep on rowin', eh.
