Did my 1K in 3:33.1. My first 1K, so a PB by default.
Sorry Michelle, I'm afraid I knocked you into Boat 3, but I'm sure you'll have company soon. We still have more rowers on deck.
Kirk, I see I came close to your time. I was actually shooting for 1:45. I thought that might be a reasonable goal for me. I thought wrong. Unlike some of the smarter rowers on the team, I was tending to slow down toward the end because I overestimated myself. Well, next time I'll have a previous 1K time as my guide instead of trying to guess from my 5K (the previous CTC challenge).
For those to like to hear some more details: I did a 10 min of warmup. For the 1K, I set the damper level at 5. I started pulling a little slower than 1:45, with 1:45 being my goal. My stroke rate was around 28. But I realized half way through that I overestimated what I was going to be able to do today. I tried to hold on as best I could, trying to save a little for the end - it was very little. After it was over, although I felt a little tired, I felt fine after about 2 minutes. Since I was a little disappointed and was feeling somewhat recovered, I thought I'd wait 15 minutes and give it another go - this time starting out a little slower, and maybe shoot for a 1:46 pace. No magic happened - I was just slower - but I had to try.
No plans to try again this month - we'll be heading on vacation next week.
Hope I moved Boat 2 up a notch. I forgot to take notice our placings before I rowed.
Okay, we need 4 more rowers now.
