Logging distance and time

Post by akrasia » January 13th, 2008, 12:01 pm

I apologize if this has already been asked and answered. I could not find it in the FAQ or forums. I have been rowing with a C2 since 1998, but am new to logging the distance. Until I stumbled upon the C2 website, I had only paid attention to watts, calories, and time.

My question is when recording distance, are we expected to add rests/breaks to the time? The monitor doesn't appear to be designed to track rest, as I believe it's a PM2 (or I haven't figured out how.)

I used a pm2 for many millions of meters.

The pm2 has 2 counters. The lifetime counter is rounded by kilometers, counts all meters, and I didn't use it for adding my meters.

When I did a session, the active recoveries were included in the distance I was doing. For example, I'd do fast/slow 100's for a 10k, or alternate fast slow 2:00 reps for an hour. Now I am not able to do these sessions on the stupid pm3 because it doesn't have the same capability.

You are fortunate to have the pm2 monitor. I wish it would work with the model D erg.

The main reason I'm asking is because I logged a marathon piece, but don't want to rank it before knowing whether or not to add the time taken for water breaks. The breaks are not as easy to track because the monitor timer stops when you stop pulling. There would have to have a separate clock on the side.

I've yet to set the monitor to count down the meters, so I'll try that next time.

Unfortunately for us marathoners, the marathon time is the total time including breaks. The trick is not to take too long a break or the meter can stop. The 'stop time' varies with the model of the PM.

My first marathon time included my getting off the erg for changing cds and fixing a heel blister. The next time I organized things better and didn't get off the erg at all. I continued to give the handle one-handed pulls while drinking/eating energy stuff

I took 15 minutes off the first time, but I was also in better shape too. I used a stopwatch as a backup for the 2nd row, but my meter performed just fine.

Us old ladies go slower so we do our marathons from around 3 hours 30 minutes (record time) to much longer. So, if you think your time is slow think of us flogging away for another hour. I couldn't do it without my custom cd music.

That would be the thing to do.

This is best, as the monitor counts down from 42,195 meters to 0.

If your stop, you have 4 minutes to get going again before the monitor erases everything.

Or if you have the new unimproved version, you'd only have 2 minutes to get going again.

Or connect the PM3 to USB port on a powered on computer and it won't power off at all.

Thanks all for the responses. You've been very helpful. I will definitely do the countdown next time, and attempt the one-handed rowing that grams mentioned. :)
