Is it possible that I injured my rotator cuff from rowing?
I feel no pain or discomfort when I row, however, moving my arm above my shoulder in a lateral movement right now is nearly impossible.
Other factors/activities I've been doing lately:
Push-ups.
Carrying a 25 pound toddler around a LOT.
This is also the shoulder that has the fractured collar bone from 15 years ago.
Rotator Cuff Injury
I guess it's possible, but having had Rotator Cuff injury, I can tell you that it did not get properly resolved until I took up rowing.
Mine was in the left shoulder, and lifting the arm to shoulder height was excruciatingly painful. Above shoulder height was out of the question. Any sudden movement (like kids grabbing your arm) made me see stars.
I played around not getting anywhere with physio for a while, but in the end, the doc hit the joint with some local+long acting corticosteroid injection, and things got better from there.
Recovery is slow. After about 3-4 months, I had good use of the arm, but restricted movement above shoulder height. I took up rowing and I have since regained full use of the shoulder.
If it happened to me again, I guess I'd lay off the erg until the joint settles down.
Hope that helps.
