When it came, I found that the Coveted Marathon Mug is actually much smaller, and not quite as shiny, as I imagined 35 km into the marathon! Just kidding...

Good job.

Daniel
Thanks Daniel,
The mug will be treasured even if it's the size of a thimble! But I now know what you mean about 35 km. I needed 36km to finish the million metres...and I had a day to spare to get it done withinin six months, so at about 25 km my mind was going through every possible permutation to get me off the erg...." ok you could finish now and do the other 11km tomorrow...if you stopped at 2 hours which is longer than you've ever gone before, you'd be within easy striking distance with a day to go...your left buttock has died and gone to heaven, stop now before the rest of you joins it....." etc., etc., as I said in the title...it wasn't pretty. But I'm now ranked number one in Canada in my age group for a FM this season....that's one out of...well...one but I'll take it while I can get it heehee!

I had to look up isotonic! That's fascinating....and here was I thinking beer was just an isometric drink...well my right arm gets a lot of excercise from beer anyway!

I broke mine in with 750 mL of Trappist Ale. The first 250 went down easy, I started flagging a bit on the 2nd, and the last 250 was a real killer!

Hi Brent, I know what you mean about running through all the permutations while doing the marathon. You do, in fact, have plenty of time to do exactly that! When I sat down, I was going to finish no matter what, and after I broke 2 hours, my longest previous row, no way was I going to stop short of a total meltdown. Nonetheless, the calculations in my head never stopped...

It's not big enough for a real beer.

Remember, beer is warm, brown, hoppy and comes in units of 568ml (20fl oz).

Unlike the beer most Americans drink which is foamy, yellow, over carbonated water, which must be drank cold and fast lest one really discovers what it tastes like. Thanks must be given for English & Belgium Ales, though micro & craft breweries are turning out some very good beers here.

Everything has its occasion.

One of my favourite summer pleasures is the first gulp of a cool San Miguel (foamy, yellow, over carbonated water, which must be drank cold and fast) after the sunday rowing outing.

San Miguel and other Spanish beers come in 0,2l and 0,33l bottles. These are nice, as they don't have time to get warm, and you can drink huge amounts of them! :D

Although one may discuss the temperature, I must admit that I would like to have the choice of ales, lagers, etc. there is in UK and Central Europe :?

Lately, Spain is starting to get some beer culture, but there are hardly any microbreweries (I know 5 of them)

Back to topic: The mug is just perfect for Spanish beer!

Thanks everyone!!!

Re the great beer question: though I do prefer the taste of a good rich ale drunk at ambient temperature, a nice cold lager hits the spot on a warm summer's day just as well. Remember, it doesn't get hot enough to require refrigerated beer in the UK that often. Not when I lived there anyway.
I remember the "Campaign for Real Ale" when I was a student in England and the micro-breweries it encouraged....discussing the effect of the weather on the cloudiness of a pint.
I believe there is more variation between beers than wines.

Excellent ck and good luck. I'd suggest you build up to it over a few weeks and do a 2 hr piece sometime near to the FM. I didn't plan it well and the buttocks were not happy!

I hope you' let us know when you get there?!
