I'm moving to Joan's place!!
Long Beach would be ideal if it didn't have LA's smog and you could make 250K euros a year to live there. :(

While watching the America's Cup, Valencia looked nice when the wind wasn't blowing. Kept shouting at the Kiwis to get out the oars!

The cost of housing is a problem in Long Beach, although it's not as high as some other beach cities in southern California. (On the bright side, near the ocean here, one doesn't have to spend much for heating or air-conditioning :) .) ....and Long Beach does have smog, but not like that of the LA basin. We're not up against mountains, and there is an onshore breeze that helps keep it a little more tolerable. :)

Fun topic...Enjoyable to hear about other rowing communities.
In the US, from my experiences, I agree that Boston and Philadelphia are enthusiastic rowing communities. The Seattle area and San Diego are also great for rowing.

I was impressed with the Cooper River in New Jersey, Camden County Boathouse and course were first rate, just down the road from Philly.
