Sad Death of Carole MacNally
Sad Death of Carole MacNally
It is with the deepest sadness that I have to tell everyone who knew Carole that she passed away in Christie's hospital overnight.
Carole's struggle with cancer has been followed by all on the UK forum. I know my thoughts are with her husband Steve and her family. The diagnosis of her illness and the rapidity of its progress has shocked us all. I can only say that I am relieved that Carole is now at peace and no longer suffering the pain and symptoms of the severe cancer that she had.
For those of you who didn't know Carole she was a member of Team Oarsome and a great personality on the UK Forum. I know that she has posted on here and felt that it is appropriate to let folks on here know the sad news as well. She has previously competed at Boston and enjoyed her visits to the USA.

I was so sad and shocked to hear about Carole's illness. And then to have it end so quickly... I never met her, but her influence far exceeded any mere geography. She was warm and caring and reached out to those of us she had never met (and had no reason to think she ever would meet!). Her writing was full of life and immediacy and humor and warmth, as well as a tough, no-nonesense get-on-with-it approach to life's challenges. She was inspiring. And I think the world is lesser for her loss.
My regrets and condolences to her family and friends.

I was unaware of Carole's illness and am sorry that she died so young. When I started rowing a few years ago she was always at the top of my ranking (together with Carla, seat5) so I came to hold her in awe for her athleticism. Then I found her posting friendly messages on the chatrooms and learned that she was a great sport too. We shared a love of gardening and the perfect tomato. And it was great that she did that 100k fundraiser. I'd wondered why she was no longer at the top of the boards, since even a leg cast didn't seem to stop her. I'm grateful to have crossed paths though just through cyberspace.

It is amazing, really what a void some people leave behind them. Over the past few years I always enjoyed reading Carole's posts. She was one of those rare people who have the ability to welcome everybody into her fold and be welcomed in return. A rare person indeed.
