New to the sport
Hello All,
I've had my erg for a couple weeks now and seem to have gotten the hang of it pretty well.
One quick question: I understand the actual method for joining a team, but how do I go about selecting or asking for an invite to a team- I'm guessing each team would have different motivations and missions.

Hi Stuart,
Hopefully others will jump in here with some ideas for you, but I thought I'd share a few. You can scroll through the University/team listings and see the personal profiles of the members to see if they might have similar interests to you. Some teams are based around a theme or geographic idea (i.e. there are teams that focus on weight control, there is an all woman's team, teams for seniors, etc. If there is a team that interests you, you could send a pm to one of the members asking for more information. I'm a member of the Eh Team, which started as a Canada based team, but now has members from around the world. We're currently trying to row the distance around the world. If this might interest you, check out the round the world thread in the general section of the forum. Of course, we are just one of many and I'm sure any team would love to have you! It's a pretty great community here. Whatever team you decide on, have fun

Hey Stuart,
Welcome to the fray!! A year ago I had the same question. I've since learned by trial and error. Being long in the tooth, I tried to join Ancient Mariners. I received a very polite email from the team captain explaining that they'd love to have me but I was too young. The sense I get from postings is that this is typical for those few club/teams that focus on specific attributes. Most teams are open. I happen to be a member of Iron Oarsmen.
Happy hunting,
Dan

SUB-7 isn't open to anyone - we've got a waiting list.
Team Oarsome is the same.
Taff Attack Racing has a strict policy of Welsh rowers ONLY.
Paddypower is for the Irish - they're in need of more women.
Iron Oarsmen seems to take allcomers.
DIAR is for the ladies.
Row pain, Row gain is for the folks trying to lose weight.
Free spirits - see http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/
Forum Flyers - has an open policy - look them up on

The M.A.D. Team has the strictest membership policy.
