Rowing camp

Post by canoeist » July 2nd, 2006, 2:25 pm

I just returned from a week at rowing camp. The camp is actually a family camp that includes rowing in the line up of activities. This is a bit different than the typical rowing camp which offer"all rowing, all the time", but it suits our family needs well.

My 12 year old daughter and 11 year old niece were at camp and enjoyed time in the boat. However, they didn't have to row all day as it would be in other camps. They got an introduction to the sport without overkill. No blisters or sore muscles! I, on the other hand, could spend a lot of time in the boats and didn't have to worry about the rest of the family getting bored. This is why I like this camping arrangement.

This was the second year that our family went to this camp. We will probably return again next year for the same reasons. One of these years, I am sure that my son will try rowing. But, until then, it is fine for him to take part in all the non-rowing activities while my wife, my daughter, and I row.

If anyone is interested in this type of camp, you can Google "Medomak" for more information.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
