I'm off too I'm afraid, I've been spending more time fretting about all this than I have rowing, which is mad!
Most sincere thanks for all your help and encouragement and all the best for the future.

I had convinced myself that I wasn't going to make a melodramatic "I'm off!" post, but I suppose I should make it official.

My own leaving Taff Attack is not primarily due to Dwayne. I like Dwayne, and I want to believe he's on the level. I look at his photo and I see "a nice guy". He's always been supportive and encouraging, and he was in my team, and for those reasons I give him the benefit of any doubt. However, "blind" (if it is that) loyalty to Dwayne and "Taff Attack" only goes so far. On one side I have Dwayne and the team I joined. On the other I have Chris, Chippy and Niall, amongst others; people I've actually met at race meets, and am likely to see at future ones. I also have a loyalty to them. So, personally, I've been torn and it hasn't been a trivial decision for me but ultimately I have more ties to the people in Taff Attack Racing, and primarily for that reason, I'm also joining the new team. Sorry.

I'm joining the TAR as well....I don't want to cast any aspersions at this stage I just want to keep focused on rowing and meeting up with some of the local people who have encouraged me through 2005.

Cheers

Being probably the newest member of TA I feel terrible about moving over as you have all been fantastic. I promise I will try and get that 42.30 by the end of the month and it will be because of all your inspiration I will do it. Phil has had great support from the local guys at events and I want that too as I hope to compete this year.

I suppose I should make it official, too. As of the new season, I will also be joining Taff Attack Racing for logging my meters, participating in the various challenges, and for racing at live events.

I have made no public opinion about the conflicts in the old Taff Attack, but I like the direction the new team is taking and the camraderie of the members who have already gone over.

I guess I should make it known what I'm going to do with respect to TA/TAR. I will be moving to Taff Attack Racing. It's been a long, hard decision to make but it gets down to the principles of the team that Chris has layed down.

It's about the competitive racing with like-minded team mates as well as the support and motivation from/to fellow team members who I have grown to respect greatly since I joined TA.

I wish everyone the very best in your indoor rowing goals.

Row hard, row well and row with pride.

I couldn't physically stop DA changing his affiliation in his logbook but I would make my feelings felt and explain that it is not in the best interest of the team.

But I don't think Dwayne will follow that course of action.

FC, I suspect some carefully worded emails to Denah and/or Billp @ concept2.com could get a affiliation removed. They really should update the team affiliation system so that you can appoint a team manager and deputy who have complete control of your team membership.

All this sounds like the squabbles of the Welsh Rugby Union. ;) I don't see what all the fuss is about over Dwayne's daily distance's. If you're training hard, thats what you have to do particularily if you are older. If you've ever bothered to ask him what he does for training, it perfectly reasonable. Me, I watch the Super 14 games on Mediazone for 2 hrs each session 5 to 6 times a week. 4 to 5 hours of training is pretty standard stuff for higher level athletes whether its rowing, cycling, weight lifting, swimming, rugby, etc.

That's a coincidence. I recently said just about the same thing in an email to a couple of friends.

I keep careful track of my rowing meters because I use the logbook at C2. I usually start the day with about two hours of rowing, and then do other things. For example, today I rowed on the water from 6:30 till 8:30 in the morning. The water is usually flat at that time, there are no motorboats, and I enjoy the sunrise. Then a little later I did a 50 mile bike ride with some friends. I looked at my logbook for April and the only day I didn't row was April 8, and I did a long bike ride that day. Anyway, the point is that 5 hours a day of exercise doesn't seem strange to me. Even when I was younger and "working," I used to start the day with a very early 3 hour bike ride and then train with other bike racers later in the day.

If I try to take a day off, which I know one should do from time to time, I just walk around the house in circles and can't sit still. The best I can do is take an easy ride or row, but I almost never take a day off.

There might be a slight problem with compulsive behavior? Who, me? Naaaahhhh. Besides, I'm too old to change now.

I don't have a problem believing the daily meters or the times and never have, but there are many more that do. This subject has been beaten relentlessly into the ground, and personally I am heartily sick of it. Dqyane will race in public when he's ready to and not before and that's his business.

Byron, been out on your trike much this spring? I am still monkeying around with my new bike trying to get the seat adjusted right. Seems like no matter what I do I am still trying to back off the end of the seat to make it feel like my old bike. This one is a Specialized--alumninum frame, so it's about 15 or so pounds lighter than my 1976 steel Raleigh but I don't feel as powerful on it because the body position is just not quite right yet. It's driving me NUTS! I just spent $225 on a special seat post to set the seat back further but it's not enough. This weekend I'm going to try raising it about 1/4" and see if that does it.

Dwayne has not raced in public since BiRC 2002 (November 2002) since then he has got quicker and quicker over 2000m and still has not raced? What makes you think he will start racing now, 4 years on.
