ErgData HR Target Zone Empty but HR is Logging

Post by hn6sg » July 17th, 2023, 5:32 pm

Hi. New member of the forum and first post. I had a question about the "Target Zone" and by extension the "Time in Target Zone" in the "ErgData" application. I can repost elsewhere if needful; looking to be educated on the forum etiquette and norms as I am new. I did do some preliminary searches but was unable to find an answer.

The problem I'm having is that the software never shows any values for the "Target Zone" or the "Time in Target Zone" despite the Zones time and percentages do show up. For example I see almost 8 minutes in Zone 3, 4.5 minutes in Zone4 with an average HR of 127 bpm and a max HR of 151bpm but no data in the "Target Zone" or "Time in Target Zone" fields in the log summary for a 15+ minute workout on my Concept2 RowErg with a PM5 communicating with iPadOS ErgData and an ANT powered HR monitor on a chest belt.

I'm feel I missing something that should be obvious; anyone have some hints?

Thanks in advance,
Donald.

ps. link to image as direct posting to forum of attachments seems problematic...

The obvious thing I guess is to check that you switched on and entered your target rate and HR zone when you created the workout? Its not something I've ever done, but clearly the data won't get captured if you've not set it up to do it.

Hmmm... I was just using the "Just Row..." option. Perhaps that has something to do with it? I guess I was just confused that the times in the HR zones was captured in those graphs but the summary fields for Target Zone and Time in Target Zone were not populated when clearly the there was zone specific times logged.

I'll try the "create workout" and turn on that "Target HR Zone" explicitly next time and will report back.

Thank you for the reply!

Yes, "just row" is designed to be the easiest thing to do and can be useful if you're not sure what type or length of workout you're up for. But once you're following a training plan, your sessions will most often be more prescriptive and you can benefit from the extra data available and better comparisons when repeating past pieces from a properly programmed session. Also you can't rank a just-row. I've not used just-row for many years now as I like the mental crutch of seeing the finish line approaching!
