Accurate heart rate monitor (HRM) while rowing?
Accurate heart rate monitor (HRM) while rowing?
Can anyone recommend a heart rate monitor (HRM) that is accurate while rowing?
Ideally a HRM could:
1) Override my Apple watch heart rate monitor display during a rowing workout.
2) Display BPM on PM5.
3) Work with iOS.
My Apple watch displays a 160 heart rate BPM; about twice as high as expected. I assume a watch cannot accurately read due to wrist movement and vibration. I tried strapping of tighter.
I can feel my carotid pulse and tell it is not beating that fast.
I can remove my watch hand from the row handle and keep rowing lightly with my right and measure a more realistic 84 BPM.

I currently use a CooSpo, but I had a Wahoo Tickr before that. I'd recommend both of them, and I've got an Android phone, but I'm sure they will work on IOS

Yes mate. Arm straps are supposed to be good too, but chest is the preference if you don't mind wearing it. Wrist straps are fairly useless from what I've heardesutton wrote: ↑February 17th, 2021, 1:02 pmThanks!

FWIW I wear a Garmin HRM chest band and my Apple Watch 5 while rowing. The watch reports the same HR as the Garmin.

I currently use two. Polar OH1+ armband & Coospo H808S chest strap.

Polar 10 here. Works great, will drop occasionally. Highly recommended.
Fitbit Charge 3 watch here also, does not work for rowing. erratic results, could be a random number generator.
Aside, having finally erg'ed with a HRM after not using one, I will always use one.
