Beginner Pete Plan?

Post by Vic303 » January 17th, 2021, 7:49 pm

I'm new to erging. Brand new, as in 4 sessions only s far. I keep seeing references to a Beginner Pete Plan. But I cannot find it. Can someone please post a link so I can see if it is something I want to do?

I'm no expert, but have been fooling around quite a while with indoor rowers (to give you and idea how long it's been, mine is a Model C, which I purchased new), and I've always thought that the BPP is pretty tough for newbies.

Personally, if I were just starting on the erg, I would want a lot more km under my keel (say, at least a month or two, rowing 3 or 4 x per week) before launching into something like the BPP. It really ramps the meters up pretty quickly, and unless you're doing them really slowly or you're already performing at a high level in other high-effort sports, I think it's a lot for a beginner.

Bottom line - don't try to do too much too quickly, unless your body is ready for it.

Good Luck

I agree with Ombrax. Depending on your background, age, weight etc this may be too much too soon.

If you haven't done already, it's also very important to get your technique sorted and drag factor at the right level. Getting the basics right at the start will pay dividends as you progress.

FYI, I'm 57, female, 5'6, 5mo post op for total knee replacement, and 190#. So I'm old, fat, female, and busted up. However, I do dabble in powerlifting, and am also a cyclist. My biggest issue is range of motion. The seat only glides 13" from flexion to full extension. I am hoping that more riding and rowing will increase my ROM. Strength is not my weak point.

That said, I agree with y'all for now, that Pete's Plan is off the table.
