New member saying hello

Post by Scallops » April 18th, 2020, 8:37 pm

Hello folks - Thought I should introduce myself. I've recently joined this forum as I have a C2 model D rower coming Monday according to my shipping info. There seems to be a lot to learn about fully utilising these machines, which is probably a good thing in the end.

I'm 55 years old, I used to row at school but that was 40 years ago. I was a competitive amateur cyclist for many years, managed a couple of state pursuit titles so have a background in interval training and exercising around heart rate. I had been using most recently an Aldi magnetic rower which I share with my wife, and we noticed the rope was fraying......so I did some research and came across the Concept 2 ergs......well, I ordered one and the very next day my Aldi rower broke! Guess I timed it right. Its actually the 3rd cheap rowing machine I have managed to destroy so looking forward to getting a real machine.

I have always used my Apple Watch 5 to monitor my rows, doing a 5 minute warm up at about 20-25 strokes per minute and 5 intervals with 3 minute efforts (33 stokes/minute) and 2 minute recovery (20stokes/min).

I understand the Applewatch won't directly integrate with the PM5, and have seen the Selfloops app which will. However, if I use that I can't also use the Ergdata app, so I also bought a polar heart rate transmitter for measuring HR.

I plan on still setting off the rower workout from Apple Watch, and also use Ergdata from my iPhone. I did see a post relating to a question I have regarding this setup in the Training area and have responded there looking for an answer. I. enclose a link to this post below if anyone knows the answer to my question....

Anyway, glad to be a part of this community. I'll probably read more than post as its clear I have. lot to learn!

Cheers Dan.

Welcome to the forum, Dan.

You won't regret the C2 erg, and it will give both you and your wife many, many years of faithful service.

The C2 site has tons of information on proper rowing technique (which may not be an issue for you, given your background), sample workouts and how to program them into the PM, and more.

Let us know if you have any specific questions and we'll be glad to help.

Have fun!

I can assure it is almost impossible to destroy a C2, and it is bound to be a far far better experience :D
