Linking to Apple Health

Post by gregbond101 » March 1st, 2020, 12:53 pm

Does anyone know if there’s a way to link either your row log or ErgData to the Apple Health app?

I have been using fitbit which syncs row data via ErgData to my fitbit account and activity, but am thinking of switching Apple Watch and the Apple Health app. I would like to be able to have rowing workouts recorded in Apple Health

Thank

There is a rower option under the workouts on the Apple Watch. It doesn't do a whole lot that I've seen, but I start the timer as I row, then end the workout as the row is over. Then you can see total time, active calories burned, total calories burned, and your average heart rate. You can dig in a little further to see a heart rate graph, then a fairly useless (for rowing on an erg) map and weather conditions at the time of the workout.

I also see that ErgData saves the same workout in the Activity app, and shows different numbers than what the watch shows. For example, my 30 minute row yesterday shows I burned 188 active calories through my watch, and 393 active calories through ErgData. Somehow the heart rate is different as well, when the only way I have to monitor it is through my Apple Watch.

It works. I have Apple Watch, ErgData, health and activity all working together. HR monitor via chest strap. I don’t know how to set it up though but it works.

I use an Apple Watch series 5. I had hoped my AW5 HR would show up on the PM5 monitor, but it doesn't. So I also wear my Garmin HR chest strap because it's easier to track my HR on the monitor than keep glancing at my wrist.

I have noted that my HR on my watch matches the PM5 screen, so it's very accurate.

That said, the rowing app does make your HR stats available in Apple Health, including HR variability and VO2 max.

I don't use the row app on the watch, it just sync's with ErgData. I dont' know exactly what talks to what but I attached some screen shots. This gives you an idea of what the data looks like in activity and health, I like how it works. Ok so attachments don't seem to work.

I use iOS Heart Graph app ($2.99) to mirror my Apple Watch heart rate to my iPhone, which I place in a cradle above the PM5. I can then train to heart rate.
