Crazy. What a waste.
Re: Rowing and mountain climbing (at the same time)
I have left mine in my basement, and it will likely stay there as I, too, am often exhausted after using it.
Started rowing 4/22/19.

Re: Rowing and mountain climbing (at the same time)
Back in my youth (1970s) I did a lot of mountain climbing. It was very enjoyable and the environmental concerns weren't as prominent then because there weren't that many people doing it. However, when I now venture into the mountains, it is disheartening, at the least, to see how the number of people has changed the whole experience. Lots more feet trampling things, lots more debris, less "wilderness experience".
I agree with the articles like this - people who go mountain climbing today should be "trained" in the environmental aspects of it, to keep it enjoyable for everyone. Look at Everest, as the most publicized peak, and the massive amounts of waste left there. The costs of expeditions should include removing all the waste, and if things are abandoned out of safety, then the climbers should be fined and/or "sentenced" to go back and get it when it is safe.
There are lots of ways to raise money for charity using an erg, no need to carry it (and abandon it) on some stunt.

Re: Rowing and mountain climbing (at the same time)
LOL -- thanks for the laugh. So ridiculous...
It did occur to me though, I expect it would be much more difficult to go down those slopes with an erg strapped to your back than to go up. The balance issues and risk of catching that thing on nearly everything you go over on the way down would be super sketchy... buddy might have left it up there for a reason i.e. very poor planning.
