Hi Everyone
Just got my new machine over a week ago and loving it so far. I’ve spent the first few workouts playing about and taking it easy as I’m also new to rowing and am now trying to get my head around damper and drag factor settings. Having read on the concept 2 website a new machine on damper 1 should have a drag factor of between 90-100 and at damper 10 210-220 I thought I would check mine out.
I was surprised that on level 1 I was only registering 74. I took another few readings as follows
Damper 3-91
Damper 5-118
Damper 7-157
Damper 10-215
No mater what I tried on level 1 I could not get it to move from
74. Daft question is this an indication of a faulty machine. I’m hoping it’s my poor technique. Appreciate any help or thoughts

You should move the lever to a position where your PM5 gives a reading of 120 (don't worry about the scale on the fan cage - it's largely meaningless and only useful for getting drag set to an initial value before measuring it with the PM5). Try 120 drag, see how it goes.
If you have trouble catching the flywheel at the front of the stroke move the drag higher. If the whole system feels too heavy to row comfortably move it lower.

The machine is working perfectly, you're able to get 215 max dragkilly119a wrote: ↑August 4th, 2019, 1:25 pmHi Everyone

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I was just concerned that there was something wrong with the machine as damper 1 was so different so can rest easy that it’s ok. Looking forward to racking up the miles and improving my fitness/technique.

My machine (bought in January) has a DF range 76-206 which is in line with what you have. I think this is common for recently manufactured C2s. The PM5 takes this all into account by measuring how much the flywheel slows down each stroke. This is why it important to use the DF instead of the leaver position when setting things up.
