Shock absorption on static erg

Post by G-dub » May 24th, 2016, 7:37 pm

So I know that there is the Shox-box, which isn't for sale anymore and expensive (I think Jack uses one) and there is slides and a dynamic, which are also expensive. Tonight I tried putting two of those inflatable balance pads under each of the rear feet. Seemed to provide what the show-box says it will provide (up and down shock absorption). I already had them so it cost me nothing. Any thoughts or other DIY ideas? Was mine a dumb idea? Sure made it seem more comfortable.

Never really had a problem with the static erg, however mine is sitting on carpet and underlay so there will be potential for a little movement as opposed to a non slip hard floor.

Technique has a big part to play and if your erg is trying to walk across the floor its the first thing I would be looking at.

It's not movement Carl. Just interested in absorbing shock since some think that might help (not hurt) the back a bit in terms of overuse - otherwise they wouldn't have made the show-box and then again maybe that's why it is out of business.

I guess everyone is different so so go for what works for you, comfort is pretty high on the list if you want to be banging out the meters..

The Concept 2 slides would be the way to go but I understand you need a lot of space for them and pretty sure it would then no longer fit in my rowing room.

With a bit of technique and understanding the drag factor combined with just medium to slow pace at normal ratings you shouldn't run into serious problems.
