Need opinions on my time
Need opinions on my time
Good evening. I am new to the forum in about a month into rowing. I bought my own rowerfor my house, but could not afford the concept 2, so I went with a mid range model. Unfortunately this model does not provide distance in meters, but I am able to convert miles to meters to get my readings. I was gunning for 10,000 m tonight, which is 6.21 miles. As you can see from the pictures attached I got my numbers backwards, and only pulled 6.13 miles which is 9849 m. I did this in 29 minutes 13 seconds. So my question is, if I finished 10,000 m in 30 minutes time, would that be a good time for rowing 10,000 m.
Thanks for any feedback and I have enjoyed reading all the posts at far.

Re: Need opinions on my time
If you did 10K in 30' that's a 1:30/500m split and I'd expect you to be rowing in Brasil at the next Olympics.
There's very few folks who can get over 8K in 30' and can do 10K in less than 40' (or 15K in 60')
I suspect the monitor on your Brand X machine is crap and badly calibrated and can't be compared in any way to the Concept2 ergo.

I suspected as much. Thanks for the feedback without crucifying me....I need to get a day pass for a local gym with a C2 and get a true reading on times. Thanks for the response. Do you think the time or meters is off, or both?Citroen wrote:If you did 10K in 30' that's a 1:30/500m split and I'd expect you to be rowing in Brasil at the next Olympics.

The time you can check yourself, with a watch, don't you think? As to the distance, you actually aren't going anywhere at all, even on a Concept2, now are you? That your machine translates work into distance differently doesn't mean it's wrong, or crap, it's just different. To compare your ability with others of your age, gender and weight, using the Concept2 at the gym is indeed the plan.jwgriffin wrote: Do you think the time or meters is off, or both?

Well done on starting to row. Rowing can work legs, shoulders, arms and back, and if it makes you sweat, you're doing fine.
Keep going, not too strong but steady with long strokes (looks good and makes you work), 30 minutes plus a day and it will get you fit, same as any other excercise. Don't rush, rowing is a long slow business, not a sprint.
Useful guides can be sweat (1 kg lost, minimum) or heart rate (120 or more).
As to distance, the C2 ergometer would probably credit you about half the "miles" you get on your machine. If interested, find a C2 to use once or twice, so you can make a more exact comparison.

Hey cut the guy some slack here, everyone has to start somewhere and if anyone gets serious they can purchase a Concept 2 later on.

But I will you buy you nothing. Only a c2 can give you a serious idea, now we are really in the dark.jwgriffin wrote:Thanks for the love partner!Carl Watts wrote:Hey cut the guy some slack here, everyone has to start somewhere and if anyone gets serious they can purchase a Concept 2 later on.
