ROWPRO Settings
ROWPRO Settings
I've had a play with this SW now.
Those who use this SW, tips/traps?
What profile on bottom of screen do you employ as a choice between WATTS, Cal, Heart Rate, /500M, etc??
Best way to rate yourself in level of fitness, etc when entering races?
Best way to lock in a routine with others for regular rowing sessions with them?
Other?

I have watts and heart rate showing and sometimes distance per stroke.

Re: ROWPRO Settings
Heartrate is the most useful to have displayed, the trend line and slope is very useful for training.
Used to use the performance analysis but its not accurate unless they have fixed a major flaw which is that pace is not a linear function against heartrate for analysis of performance over time. They need to use Watts vs heartrate.
Pretty much only use the online rowing on it these days, I can pass on the rest of the features. The new version finally has SPM on the screen for everyone to see if you check the tick box in the settings.
Rowpro is not about "Racing" unless it's stated as a race, 95% of those rowing online are training and doing fitness plans etc so you just do you own thing. The misconception that its all about racing puts about 95% of potential users off using the software.
I look forward to the day you can log on anytime day or night and find up to 16 people to row with from around the world.

Re: ROWPRO Settings
Thanks Jack and Carl.
Can you elaborate more on why and how heart rate (trend line and slope) is useful in terms of interpretation and adapting your session to that line?
Can anyone confirm if the performance analysis has been fixed (on RowPro 4.2) to reflect Watts vs HR?
When are the online rowing sessions are regarded as races? How are these sessions noted to be different on the screen?
Do you adjust your drag rate setting - if so, what reference do you refer to?

Re: ROWPRO Settings
Watching watts, whether a changing number or a line on a graph promotes steady pace. HR increase and decrease is never synchronous with pace. If I see an upward watts spike, I know I'm tiring and overcompensating for fatigue. Helps me get off the accelerator pedal before the corresponding HR spike and the expensive energy payback for sloppy pacing.
I watch DPS for the same reason: to find the onset of fatigue or inattention while slight corrections of pace are still useful over the remainder of the piece.

Re: ROWPRO Settings
Great insight Jack.
When you say 'watching watts' - do you mean the force / power curve for each stroke?
If so, do you aim for the most area under the curve for maximum energy - as well as the smoothness of the line?

Unfotunately, this does not work and row pro personnel acknowledge this.Carl Watts wrote:..... The new version finally has SPM on the screen for everyone to see if you check the tick box in the settings.

Would have thought it would be a quick fix but obviously not, they must have more important things to worry about.

Re: ROWPRO Settings
I think it is a great addition to what others are stroking at.
They say they are working on it for the bug fix.

Re: ROWPRO Settings
Yes its great to see what others are doing SPM wise online, most of my training pace rows are at 18 SPM which makes it hard work compared to even 21-23 SPM.Romper wrote:I think it is a great addition to what others are stroking at.

Hope they fix the problem soon.
