The CTC for this month is a 10k, now, i really have been doing a lot of erging latley and im a little sick of it, but if you guys give me enough support I might just do it, so, should I do a 10k this month? or should i relax from the long piece work and concentrate on the spring rowing season?

Wow, Ben, you brought your 2k back down to 1:56.9 again!
Great!
I'm interested to hear how you do in your 10k.

I enjoy reading your posts and wish that everybody was able to maintain the enthusiasm, goodwill and eagerness to learn, that is so clearly evident in your own posts. Reminds me of my early running days!
Look forward to reading your name up the top of the WIRC someday.
And for what it is worth. If you get a kick out of doing the 10k then go for it. Otherwise take a break and come back refreshed at a later date.
I think you used to list your PB's under your signature. Suggest you do that again so we can all keep tracjk of your progress.
Best wishes,
ChrisB

Should Ben do 10K erg? No!
Don't do it Ben.
If you really are sick of doing too much erging lately then my advice is go outside and get some fresh air and forget about the 10K. You can always come back to it later but rowing on the water is definitely more important. Concentrate on your spring rowing.
You are probably sick of starring at four walls and an erg monitor on a machine that is stationary and goes no'where. When your brain gets re-charged from all the fresh air outside you'll once again feel the urge to give the 10K another go at some later date.
Remember that the boat goes places and the erg doesn't. The erg will always be there waiting for you when your sick of having fun outside. This forum usually goes quite over the warmer months anyway, and for a good reason. That is because many other people are doing the same. Don't let the gym rats that fester inside talk you into doing it.

PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

Ben,
I'd say Roland is a bit of a hypocrite, as he does 50k cross country ski races, then tells you to not do a 10k on the erg.
If you want to do it then have at it.
Personally I think there'd be nothing more boring than being locked into a boat where you can only go one direction. If was on the water I'd rather be in a kayak, and there is good evidence that kayaking will be much better for your rowing than going out in a boat where you can coast along at low rates.

Hi Ben,
We were in the same boat in ctc March challenge. I suppose you agree it is great fun. Now you get many advice and opinions. I think you should definitely row the 10k but not in order to break any records but to fill one boat with other enthusiastic rowers never mind what your time is. I hate long distances as well. You have your own challenges when on water rowing, just remember that nobody expects anything from you during ctc erg monthly challenge. Everyone of us is just happy to see you there

If you find rowing in a boat boring because you can only go in one direction why don't you try rowing a coxless pair with a heavyweight bloke. Then you would go around in circles because you wouldn't be able to match his power. Afterwards you could use your fabulous Patt and PERathlon calculations to try and tell him that you actually travelled in a straight line.
As for me XC skiing 50K and telling Ben not to do a 10K erg. Other than both being endurance sessions the situations are completely unrelated to each other.
