I'd planned on trying to see some of the 1012 regatta anyway, but if you're in it I'll make sure! WCS is "World Class Start". It's a training program for rowers to get them into the Great Britain squad. Graham Benton is in WCS.Brendo wrote:Owen - sounds fantastic but could you let a very old and very stupid Taff, living on the otherside of the world in sunny Brisbane, know what WCS is.

Last shot at the Rugby test. Better than before, but the last 750 was a killer and I almost lost everything I gained during the first 4 intervals.

A last shot at the Rugby test.
I'd forgotten how hard this erging is. Not really knowing what state of fitness I am really in, I decided to have a go at keeping a pace of 1.39.0 for all pieces. Figured that when I did this 10 days ago avg of 1.40 was not too painful and prior to my accident I was rowing at around 1.38.
The last 500Metres of final set were a real struggle, I was very close to dropping the handle.
1,000 Metres - 3.16.9 : 138.5
750Metres - 2.28.6 : 1.39
500 Metres - 1.39.0 : 1.39
250 Metres - 49.6 : 1.39.2
750 Metres - 2.33.0 : 1.42
Total time 10.47.1 Pace 1.39.6
Anyway glad its over now, Physio has told me not to do more than 10 mins at a time and so theoreticaly 10K is out for a couple of weeks.

Unless someone is really inspired today, we're in 4th on this one. It won't be me!
Hey Phil, how in the world can you be rowing that hard such a short time after being on the bench for your leg. Great row! ...Maybe you shouldn't rule out a 10K in 10 minutes, come on, give it a shot!
This will be my last real erging month--have to train up to get a marathon done and then I'll let myself out doors to bike and will probably not erg all that much all through spring and summer. Though I don't know, if the CTC challenges keep coming I may end up erging more this year than usual because it's fun, in an awful sort of way!

Well if Phil's having a final go I am not one to shirk!
1000 3.55.6 1.57.8
750 2.58.3 1.58.8
500 1.58.3 1.58.3
250 0.57.0 1.54.0
750 3.02.2 2.01.4(and struggling)
I was aiming to beat the female above me and did it, however Carla and Krista ar well off my radar on this one!
Phil says that it was good that I nearly blacked out after the first 750m I am not convinced!!
Does anyone know how you work out your pace on 10k or is it just guess work???
And Carla could you please explain what the slides do as Phil and I are sratching our heads as to how and why???

Slides are dollies/rails that the C" erg sits on and they allow the erg to move underneath the rower. When rowing, you more or less stay stationary, while the erg moves back and forth. I don't know how to work it out but my times seem to progress quite smoothly up distances
500 - 1:43.6
1000 - 1:48.4
2000 - 1:54.4
5000 - 2:02.6
30min - 2:03.9
6000 - 2:04.3
10000 - 2:08.1
60min 2:12.7
21,097 - 2:13.8
Marathon - I'll wait until Carla gives me a time to aim at
I'm only at 4 months on the machine so the times themselves are not great but the "curve" seems about right.
MarkP might have some better maths to calculate a good pace
I'm hoping to do a few 10K PB's during the month to get it down to about 2:06ish, we'll see - I'm tempted to do my first one in 15 minutes as that's 1st April down here in Aus.
I reckon you are at about 2:18 at the start of the month down to about 2:12 by the end
and if Phil breaks his other leg and rows one handed I might end up in the same boat as him:-)

I was beating him when he was rowing arms only so it's tempting although it is quite useful having both legs functioning for children taxiing service!Brendo wrote: I reckon you are at about 2:18 at the start of the month down to about 2:12 by the end

I was going to try about 2.15 as I think thats what I can row comfortably at but I will have to leave it for a day or so now. Good luck with yours
