concept 2 model c chain jumping

Post by thepurves » February 8th, 2014, 6:40 am

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can help. When my husband is rowing on our Concept 2 model c, the chain seems to "jump" especially when he starts to rev up the strokes? Any suggestions as to what could be causing this? We thought maybe a worn sprocket or tension cord stretched.

:D

Fit a new chain and sprocket. I would not fit one without the other. The sprocket would be pretty hard to get off without the tool which is a one way bearing in a nut as the sprocket is threaded and does itself up when you row. Ensure the bungee cord still has enough to retract the chain. These last about 10 years then need replacing.

Before thinking about new chain and sprocket inspect for stiff links and loosen them up if you find any. Then apply some chain oil (20 weight 3-in-one oil is fine) and see if that fixes it. Also per Carls suggestion make sure the bungee is returning the handle with enough force- 6-10 pound is about right and it can be adjusted as described here: http://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/in ... stment.pdf
