Re: time comparisons
Hi,
Times can be compared between machines, in fact that's one of the great attractions of the C2 machine. Unfortunately it appears that your machine is misconfigured, as give or take a second or two you've matched the world record! What machine do you have, and what monitor is attached to it? (e.g. a model B with a PM3)
Cheers, Paul

Looks like you're not unfit as you say?wil_p wrote:I am new to rowing, but am wondering if times between machines can be compared?

Re: time comparisons
Looks like
1. It's not a Concept 2 ergo
or
2. The monitor is configured for the wrong model
or
3. Our OP should be trying out for his Olympic team

Re: time comparisons
I'm well aware that something is amis!
The machine I use unfortunately is not a concept 2
Lack of funds as a beginner forced me into buying a proteus par 5500
The concept 2 will be purchased soon as I have fallen for
Rowing.
So I'm sorry I should have mentioned in the first post.
Can different brands be compared? It seems not with the time I
Achieved.
Or am I going to just face it and buy the c2?

Re: time comparisons
The answer is obvious. Your Brand-X rowing machine is clearly very generous with the scores.
Re: time comparisons
The website http://www.proteusfitness.com/front/bin ... t=PAR-5500 says the machine has a Watt readout, and in your post you say 263 W, rating 24, time 5:41.
This looks possible at rate 24 if you are 191cm 100kg unfit and 35. Keep pulling.
If 263W is real, a typical workout for you might be 3 x 10 minutes at 160 - 180W; how does that sound?
Does your user manual tell you how the Watt/Speed conversion is done? The website calls the machine a "rower" and not an ergometer, so we can't know if it does actually measure and report Watts accurately. However Taiwanese engineers are well aware of the meaning of Watt.

Re: time comparisons
263w corresponds to a pace of 1.50 sec/500m which would be a 7:20 2k. If the wattage on the machine is valid, that is very good for an unfit beginner, but not unreasonable, considering his size and age. Of course, since the time is probably correct, the 263 wattage was not maintained for as long as a 2k would take.

Re: time comparisons
Feeding 5:41 and 1:50 pace into the pace calculator gets a distance of 1550m so that's three quarters of the way there.Bob S. wrote:263w corresponds to a pace of 1.50 sec/500m which would be a 7:20 2k. The original poster need to program his Brand-X machine for 2667 metres to get a 2K equivalent.

Re: time comparisons
Will be a good machine to get fit on but if you want to compare your times to anyone on this forum or in the Concept 2 rankings, then you will need to buy a Concept 2 rower.
