Bluetooth earphone & Android speech app recommendations

Post by raotor » January 14th, 2014, 8:31 am

This subject has been covered before I believe, but I wondered if I might
enquire again in the event more people have experience of such things or new
products are available since the last foray into this subject.

I'm wondering what are a reasonable quality and more importantly reliable
earphone choices for Bluetooth connection to an Android smart phone. I'm not
sure what version of Bluetooth the phone has, but it's Android version is
less than 12 months old I understand.

I want to connect the Android phone to an erg via the Android connection kit
from C2 which I have recently purchased and use an app that will allow me to
have the erg stats like 500 split, rate, time/distance remaining in piece
etc spoken and have the audio sent via Bluetooth to the ear phones in
question as I'm visually impaired and cannot see the PM screen.

So, not only could someone recommend reliable Bluetooth head phones but
perhaps also a good Android app to do what I'm looking for. I have an app
called Boat Coach which I understand does the sort of things I want but
haven't delved into that yet. If there are any other suitable apps I should
consider I would be grateful for any recommendations.

Many thanks.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve

I can't answer your Android app questions, but on the recommendation of someone on the UK forum I bought a pair of the Jaybird Bluebuds X Bluetooth earphones. Very happy with the quality, and seem to be surviving the sweat as promised.

If you're able to connect a laptop to the PM3 then Concept2's free software ErgChatter would be helpful. You could then pair the Bluetooth earphones with the laptop to get the PM3 info read to you. I haven't tried the software myself - just reading the page on the C2 site.

Cheers
Dave

Thank you so much for your helpful reply and the link.

I was looking at Android devices like smart phones because I currently use an erg at my local gym and the laptop isn't the best option for that environment. However, the ErgChatter program running on a PC or laptop sounds very interesting. if I get my own erg one day I can simply connect a laptop to the erg without even the need for earphones.

Once again, thanks for your helpful and detailed response - it's given me a few new options I hadn't been aware of.

Thanks! :)

Do NOT buy the Jabra sports earbuds. They last 1 week and then die a horrible, slow death. At least that was my experience with my purchased set and the free warranty replacement. I gave up on them after that point.

Interesting that such polar opposite views for the same product are present.

Perhaps I should have a look at the concensus of opinion regarding this product on AMazon.

Can you suggest an alternative that you found worked for you?

No, two different products.

Jay birds: good
Jabra: bad

No conflict.
