Hi Everyone,
I've been logging metres for just under a month now and have clocked up +30,000 but this is my first forum post.
I'm just curious about everyone's average height? I'm trying to get an idea of whether this is a sport I should bother trying to get into for competition rather than just leisure. I find that I have to work pretty hard to row at a 1:5X / 500m split time and I'm wondering if that's due to a shorter drive phase because of height.
I'm about 177cm (or 5 feet 9 inches), and my best 2000m time so far is 8:01.3 (this was after a 45 minute chest, back, lats and abs session).
What sort of times do you average and what is your height?

Are you looking to just erg or OTW? OTW you might find there is less discrepency because being lighter on the water is an advantage. Either way I wouldn't focus on height too much. If you love the sport and work hard you can be good at it. Take Steve Tucker who is 5' 7" perhaps 5' 8". He is still regarded as one of the top scullers in the country and although I don't know his erg scores I've heard he can hold a 1:40 pace forever. Like an hour or so. In long distance races he has beaten world champions.

Re: Average Height
To be good, whatever our size, we need technique. The erg gives us a good guide to this. If your 200W (8min) 2k was at rating higher than 24, start there.
On the erg this means mainly full length strokes, low drag, very fast catch and pull. On the water too, plus a lot more.
